Diabetic Foot Care, Education & Advice
Diabetes can have profound effects on our feet and having adequate knowledge and background regarding diabetic foot care empowers you to take better care of yourself. We implement a diabetic foot assessment on your initial consultation to assess your level of risk and outline an appropriate diabetic foot care plan accordingly. This will help to minimize your risk of diabetic foot complications and provide you with relief knowing that your feet are under the care of a professional.

Arthritic Foot Care
Arthritis is very common in our feet as they are exposed to the stress of physical activity day in and day out. Arthritis can range from chronic forms such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis to more acute forms such as gout or pseudogout. Arthritis has the ability to significantly change our feet and adjust our biomechanics in a short period of time. We provide the arthritic foot with several options to minimize these change and accommodate any deformities to provide your joints with comfort and relief.

Foot Care for Children
Children’s feet are unique from normal adult feet. Several changes are taking place from the time we are born, to the time we begin crawling and eventually to the time we begin walking. Children may suffer from various foot disorders and sometimes find it difficult to communicate their problems. It is important to initiate good foot care practices in children to allow them to grow up with healthy functioning feet.

Callus and Corn Removal
Callus and corns are reduced by physical debridement by a trained Chiropodist. Callus and corns should never be treated on your own especially if you are at a higher risk of injury (e.g. Diabetes, Poor Circulation). A Chiropodist is a trained foot care professional that can remove corns and callus, implement chemical therapy to minimize their recurrence. A detailed biomechanical examination to correct abnormal mechanics or address inappropriate shoes to alleviate the pain associated with callus and corns would also be conducted.

Plantar Wart Treatments
Plantar warts represent a viral infection and as such may be treated by our natural immune system. In some cases, plantar warts may persist for long periods of time and may actually spread to other areas of the feet and to other people. We closely monitor and use effective treatment options to clear the infection and provide appropriate advice recurrence of the infection.

Thickened, Damaged or Fungal Nail Drilling
Our nails take a beating from having things fall on them, stubbing your toes and even wearing tight fitting shoes. Over time, nails may get damaged or be exposed to various bacterial or fungal infections. A Chiropodist is professionally trained to inspect and determine the health of your nails and provide adequate advice and appropriate treatments to ensure you have healthy nails.

Non-Surgical Ingrown nail care
Ingrown toenails can be painful to deal with. We provide an option to remove the nail spike, monitor and treat any infection present and eventually help guide the nail out of the corner without having to surgically remove the nail. Nail Surgery may ultimately be the only solution if the nail fails to heal with conservative measures.

Nail Surgery
(Partial or Total Nail Removal)In certain cases, ingrown nails will not respond to conservative care, or the shape of the nail inhibits non-surgical recovery. A surgical procedure can be conducted on-site under a sterile environment to remove all or the affected portion of your nail with no re-grown of the nail. Nail removal procedures are normally booked just before the weekend to allow you 2-3 days of recovery time. The procedure is fairly simple and you are on your feet instantly and able to walk out of the office. Follow-ups are conducted at regular intervals to monitor appropriate healing.

Sports Medicine
Sport specific injuries are dealt with either through physical therapy modalities or through the use of custom made foot orthotics and/or orthopedic footwear. Advice is provided as to how to nurse your injury and the steps that need to be taken to get you back to your normal activity levels.

Orthopedic Footwear
(Style and Comfort combined)Footwear is an integral component of good foot health. We provide a wide selection of orthopedic footwear that is fitted to meet the specific needs of your feet and have the option of accommodating prescription custom foot orthotics. Modifications to orthopedic footwear or even your existing footwear can be made on-site by the Chiropodist. Custom Made Footwear
Custom Made Footwear may be necessary if your feet cannot be accommodated in orthopedic or modified footwear. Some cases where custom made footwear may be prescribed include severe biomechanical abnormalities, limb length discrepancy and Bunions.

Orthotic Repairs & Modifications
Your orthotics can take a beating, especially if they are worn on a daily basis. If you have received custom foot orthotics through the Mount Joy Foot Clinic, many minor repairs or modifications are provided to you at no additional cost. Orthotics from another clinic are also welcomed to be refurbished at a small cost.

Footwear Evaluation, Advice & Recommendations At every visit, your footwear is assessed so that advice and recommendations can be made to allow you to select appropriate shoes when you go shoe shopping.

In-Office Dispensing of various Foot Care Products
Various products are available on-site at the clinic to provide a one-stop location to achieve good foot health. Some of the products we carry include are Footlogix Creams, Epoch (Foot Treatment), Superfeet & HelixCare pre-fabricated insoles, Bunion Splints, Diabetic socks and many other products. If there is something that we don’t have, we would be happy to order it in for you.

Compression Stockings Fitting
Many people suffer from discomfort and swelling of the legs and even varicose veins. Medical grade compression stockings can be professionally be fitted and dispensed to improve blood circulation in your legs. A prescription from your family physician or a medical doctor is generally required if you plan to submit this expense to your extended health group plan.

Biomechanical Assessments
An integral component of understanding your feet, the biomechanical examination reveals your unique foot deformities. A biomechanical exam allows the Chiropodist to understand how your feet work and what needs to be done to improve your foot health.
