Soft Orthotics

Custom foot orthotics are not indicated for every patient and all foot problems. Patients with Diabetic neuropathy, osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis require a special combination of support, protection and cushioning to alleviate their foot and ankle problems. Many accommodative foot orthotics have special additions that regular functional orthotics will not have. Accommodative orthotics can also be useful for patients that do not tolerate harder orthotics. These orthotics may require routine adjustments and repairs since are comprised of softer material.

Custom Orthotics for Diabetes.

The diabetic foot can have poor sensation, sensitive skin, slow healing and sometimes foot ulcers. It is essential for diabetic patients to prevent foot related problems before they start. The right diabetic orthotic and orthopedic footwear can be effective in minimizing the risk of developing ulcers and possible amputation.

Diabetic orthotics at Mount Joy Foot Clinic & Orthotic Centre are prescribed and made with unique materials that support the feet, reduce friction and pressure in order to prevent more sensitive areas to breakdown.

Custom Orthotics for Rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a painful systemic disease that attacks the body’s joints. This results in swelling, inflammation, cartilage and bone breakdown and dislocation of the joints. Early intervention in someone diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis can delay many foot ankle problems associated with the disease.

In early Rheumatoid arthritis, functional foot orthotics with a semi-rigid arch support provides the support and stability needed to prevent joint damage. Progression of the disease and continued joint damage and deformity will require the use of an accommodative orthotic.
