Custom Orthotics Prescribed, Cast & Dispensed by a Chiropodist in Markham.

custom foot orthotics in markham

Custom foot orthotics are a prescribed medical device to alleviate your foot and ankle problems. Custom made orthotics improve foot and ankle function while correcting abnormal foot biomechanics. Chiropodist and podiatrists use custom orthotics in the treatment and prevention of flat feet, heel pain, plantar fasciitis, bunions, Morton's neuroma, Achilles tendonitis and other foot and ankle disorders. Custom orthotics keep you healthy and active without the pain. Custom foot orthotic treatment can reduce or completely heal the pain associated with the foot and ankle when used in combination with appropriate footwear.

Mount Joy Foot Clinic & Orthotic Centre offers a truly customized approach to custom made foot orthotics. We conduct a thorough patient medical history and perform a full biomechanical exam and gait analysis (as required by most extended health insurance providers). We use plaster of Paris or three-dimensional laser scanning to capture an accurate cast of your feet. An individualized prescription for custom orthotics ensures you receive a foot orthotic specifically designed for you.

Our orthotic lab offers a variety of shells (plastic, carbon fibre, graphite, copolymer) and topcovers (leather, suede, neoprene, puff) to suit your taste. Orthotics can fall under generalized categories as listed below:

Functional Custom Foot Orthotics

Functional foot orthotics are more than simple arch supports. Functional custom orthotics support and enhance foot function, prevent joint misalignment, relieve stress and fatigue on your muscles, tendons, and ligaments. The most commonly prescribed foot orthotics are function foot orthotics. They are intended for use when you are suffering from acute or chronic pain in the feet, ankles, knee, hip and low back. Functional custom orthotics are used for everyday activities and work exceptionally well in orthotic friendly shoes.

Casual & Dress Custom Foot Orthotics

Casual and dress orthotics offer maximum control with minimal bulk! The low profile custom foot orthotics can fit in a variety of shoes. Casual and dress foot orthotics are often composed of durable materials such as carbon fibre or graphite. Casual orthotics work well in dress shoes for the office or more formal occasions (e.g. dinners, parties, weddings). Casual orthotics can fit most shoes that have a removable insole. Dress Orthotics are a thinner and lighter version of casual orthotics. Dress orthotics work best for low profile shoes that do not have removable footbeds.

Sports Custom Foot Orthotics

Sports orthotics provide a perfect blend of arch support and flexibility for a variety of activities. Sports orthotics have a unique combination of a semi-rigid plastic with selective cushioning in high impact areas like the heel and balls of your feet. Sports orthotics can even be specialized to fit soccer shoes, hockey skates and ski boots. We are excited to introduce the new Performance Rx Shell orthotics. These specialty orthotic shells allow us to design sports orthotics with minimal bulk. Performance Rx orthotics are the most frequently prescribe custom foot orthotics by our clinic.

Accommodative Custom Foot Orthotics

Accommodative orthotics fit a particular subset of patients. An accommodative orthotic, aka soft orthotics, absorb shock, improve balance, and remove pressure from the sore spots on your feet. Soft custom orthotics work best for people that suffer from peripheral neuropathy, arthritis (gout, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis), fibromyalgia and highly callused feet. Soft foot orthotics provide comfort and protection to the feet when changing function is not the priority.

VeriScan Podiatric 3D Orthotic Scanner: Fast & Accurate Casts
