Athlete’s foot is a common fungal skin infection that doesn’t affect athletes alone. If you find that your feet are itching, scaling, red or have formed small blisters, it’s possible that your suffering from athlete’s foot. For some people, the infection can spread between the toes and even into and under your nails.

Fungus? How did I get that?

Athlete’s foot can be picked up most commonly in public or shared areas such as dressing rooms, locker rooms and showers especially if you tend to walk barefoot in these areas. If you don’t thoroughly dry your feet after a shower or your feet sweat excessively and being trapped in socks and shoes (dark, humid environment) all day encourages the growth of fungus on our skin. Having Diabetes, a weakened immune system or a pre-existing fungal nail infection can also explain why some people may also develop an infection. Whatever the reason is for you having athlete’s foot, dealing with it quickly and appropriately is essential to your foot health.
