Callus & Corn Relief in Markham

From Hard to Smooth: Your Guide to Callus and Corns

Callus and corns are a thickened and tough skin that forms on our feet from pressure and friction. Callus and corns can become thick enough that walking becomes painful.

How did I get callus or corns on my feet?

Depending on the way you walk and the mechanics of your feet you may be putting too much pressure on them. Pressure combined with poor biomechanics and inappropriate shoes signal the skin to protect itself by forming callus and corns. Feet are changing regularly (more so when we get older) and callus and corns can develop later in life with these changes.

What can I do for callus and corns?

You can help prevent pain from callus and corns by wearing good footwear indoors and outdoors. Regular use of foot creams and in some cases filing with a pumice stone can help. Avoid picking and cutting at your callus or corns to prevent worsening the problem or getting an infection. Over-the-counter medicated callus removers should be used cautiously and in some cases should be avoided completely (diabetic foot, poor circulation to the legs and feet). Always read the instructions carefully before putting anything on your feet.
